The Gold Standard of Love

Let me tell you how I jumped, rolled, and dove into 2025! The gratefulness in my heart as I left 2024 cancer free is an understatement.  More about that in a future article.  Needless to say, I was excited about all of the new possibilities for 2025; new ventures, experiences, and celebrations.  One of those amazing celebrations in 2025 just so happens to be my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary, also known as the “Golden Wedding Anniversary.”

Reaching such a milestone is a monumental achievement, worthy of celebration and reflection.  As an only child, this is one of the few times that I wanted a sibling; someone to share in such a celebration, and to of course assist financially if I’m being honest, but I digress.  For this celebration, I am taking my parents on vacation, and it is an honor and a privilege for me to be able to do so, and I am beyond grateful to have that ability.

When I think about the kind of parents they have been, I can honestly say that there is nothing too great that I wouldn’t do for them.  While going through treatment for breast cancer in 2024, as much as they tried to hide it, I could see the pain on their face; the sadness of what their only child was facing.  Even in my forties, they still insisted on taking me to every appointment, regardless of when or where it was.  I cannot express how truly grateful I am.

I have learned that the golden anniversary symbolizes strength and beauty.  Are things always perfect?  Absolutely not, and they never will be.  But such a grand milestone shows that things have stood the test of time, and serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of love and commitment.

In today’s world, where love often feels fleeting, I believe that a golden anniversary often serves as a reminder for younger generations that this is possible, with the right partner.  If they are willing to listen, they can gain invaluable wisdom, insights, and stories from such couples, for nurturing their own relationship, and getting through less than fun times.

This truly represents the Gold Standard.  Happy 50th Mom & Dad!
